I am a Math, English, AVID and Spark teacher in Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District. I’ve been teaching grades 6-12 for about 18 years. I initially learned to facilitate Lesson Study through an RGK grant in our school district a few years ago. That year I ran two Lesson Studies with the English Language Arts department at my school.
In the summer of 2013 I joined CTA‘s Teacher Leadership Cohort (TLC). As my district transitioned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), I saw the need for good professional development. So, three other math teachers and myself decided to take our professional development into our own hands. We chose to use Lesson Study as a cross-school professional development – and this became my TLC project.
This has been a fantastic, inspiring, intellectual, fun experience where we have been able to use our own expertise and teach each other (teachers make the best teachers of other teachers). It’s the BEST PD!
